John Blossom photo John Blossom, Shore Communications
John Blossom is one of the most widely recognized content industry analysts, providing thought leadership to executives in search of new approaches to rapidly changing enterprise and media markets for publishing and technology products and services. He founded Shore Communications Inc. in 1997, is the author of the book "Content Nation: Surviving and Thriving as Social Media Changes Our Work, Our Lives and Our Future," and speaks frequently at industry and corporate events in the U.S., Europe and Asia. For his excellence in qualitative research, Mr. Blossom was recognized with the Vendor of the Year award by Standard & Poor's in 2001. Shore Communications was recognized as one of the 100 Content Industry Companies that Matter Most by EContent Magazine in 2004 and 2005 and Mr. Blossom's ContentBlogger weblog won the Software and Information Industry Association 2007 CODiE award for Best Media Blog.

Aafia is a pioneer in the study of key opinion leadership science, influence networks, physician sentiment analysis, and healthcare innovation adoption relating to pharmaceutical life cycle management strategy. She has successfully supported drug commercialization efforts within the world's largest pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. Aafia also serves as a Leadership Alliance Board Member for the Melanoma Research Foundation.

Laurel Earhart photo Laurel Earhart
Smart Content marketing director Laurel Earhart has over 15 years experience in information technology and business development. Her early professional experience includes Russian translation, database management and managing early Internet applications at the University of Arizona, Georgetown University, and the Center for Strategic and International Studies. She later applied her technical knowledge to sales at Comtex, a real-time newswire aggregation service. Her favorite client hired her, and she went on to serve as Director of Business Development for the News and Politics content areas at America Online, where she secured some of the largest and most complex content providers on the service. Her most recent position at AOL was that of National Director of Sales Operations at AOL/Time Warner, where she facilitated brand sales strategies, consistent metrics and acted as technical liaison for the AOL family of brands. She was instrumental in securing many of the early Internet advertising relationships with worldwide advertising agencies. Most recently, she served as Vice President of Business Development for SentiMetrix, a sentiment analysis technology start-up in Washington, DC.
Ms. Earhart holds a BA in Russian from the University of Arizona, with a minor in marketing from the Eller School of Business.

David has over 25 years experience in research, measurement, and consulting in communications and marketing. Dr. Geddes received a B.A. magna cum laude from Harvard, an M.B.A. from the University of Kansas, a D.E.A. from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (Paris), and a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. David is a member of the Institute for Public Relations Measurement Commission.

Otis is an Apache Software Foundation member and the founder of Sematext, a software development and consulting company focused on Lucene, Solr, Nutch, and Hadoop.

Previously he served as the Sr. V.P. of Sales and Marketing for Elsevier and as the National Sales Director for Dow Jones Financial News Services after beginning his career at Xerox. Michael joined McGraw-Hill as a news editor at Aviation Week & Space Technology and was the founding editor of AviationNow.com.
Michael is known for being the first journalist to interview the flight attendants who stopped shoe bomber Richard Reid from blowing up an American Airlines 767 over the Atlantic Ocean. He served on the teams that won a McGraw-Hill Corporate Achievement Award for development of the Aviation Week Intelligence Network in 2002 and American Business Media's Neal Award for Best Web Site in 2006.

He is actively involved in raising awareness for Web 3.0 applications based on his experience as CEO of a semantic consumer focused web company. When he's not passionately promoting the necessity of strong teams and the possibilities of new technology Mr. Stanton can be found working with his own team comprised of his wife, daughter, and son just outside of NYC.

Mark Stefik photo Mark Stefik, Research Fellow, Palo Alto Research Center (PARC)
Mark Stefik is a Research Fellow at the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC). He leads the Kiffets social indexing project at PARC (www.kiffets.com) which combines the experience of curators with AI technology to organize news and other information. From 2001-2005, he led PARC's Information Sciences and Technologies laboratory in developing sensemaking technology for intelligence analysts. His research areas include sensemaking, digital rights management, expert systems, and collaboration technology. Stefik is a Fellow in the American Association for Artificial Intelligence and in the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Stefik's doctoral dissertation was in computer science from Stanford University.

Fred is an 18-year veteran of the CIA, where he analyzed worldwide technology developments. He was a senior analyst at the White House Situation Room, the National Security Council, and the Pentagon.

Brooke Aker is the CEO of Expert System USA, a leading semantic technology firm, and is a long standing speaker and writer in the areas of Competitive Intelligence, Knowledge Management and Predictive Analytics. Mr. Aker is a serial entrepreneur having formed both Acuity Software and Cipher Systems and was a member of the Intelligence practice at The Futures Group/Deloitte Consulting.
Mr. Aker earned a MA in Economics from Boston University and a BA in Economics from the University of Vermont.

Marty Betz, VP Technology, FirstRain
With over 15 years experience building algorithm intensive software applications, Marty brings management expertise with a passion for data-intensive analytics to FirstRain. He heads up the engineering team, pioneering the new technology behind FirstRain's intelligent business search. Prior to FirstRain, Marty held technology leadership positions Beon Software and Credence Systems Inc.; he's been a partner at several technical consulting firms and earlier worked as a math professor and researcher at the University of Texas, Austin. Marty holds a Ph.D. in mathematics from Stanford University and an A.B. from Harvard University, also in math.

Jose C. Gonzalez is Associate Professor at the School of Telecommunication Engineering, Technical University of Madrid (UPM). Researcher in the field of Intelligent Systems, he founded DAEDALUS in 1998, a spin-off in the field of advanced ICT: business intelligence, knowledge management, semantic web and language technologies. He has been Technical Director of CITAM (Center for Research in Multimedia Technologies and Applications, 1996-1998), and Chairman of the Spain Computer Society Chapter of the IEEE between 2002 and 2009. He is Visiting Professor at the Department of Computer Science, Royal Holloway, University of London, since 2003.

Prior to Basis Technology, Steve worked at BBN Technologies where he worked on the Broadcast and Web Monitoring Systems, which capture and extract open-source intelligence from live television and internet news websites. He has experience in information visualization, distributed systems architecture and received his MS in Information Technology and BS in Computer Information Systems from Bentley University.

He recently cofounded Subtext 3 together with Shlomo Argaman PhD, a Professor of Mathematics and expert in machine learning algorithms.

David has over 20 years experience of product development, consultancy and research in Natural Language Processing. He is a co-founder of Linguamatics, and designed the I2E text mining system which uses a novel interactive approach to information extraction. He has a PhD from the University of Cambridge, and was a researcher and lecturer at the University of Edinburgh, and a Senior Computer Scientist at SRI International. He has published in the areas of text mining, spoken dialogue and semantics.

Lee Phillips, VP Product Marketing, Acquire Media
Over the last twenty-five years, Lee has worked in executive and leadership capacities for industry leaders such as Fast Search & Transfer, NewsEdge, Ziff-Davis, Borland International, and Lotus Development. In each of these roles, he has tackled challenges in product management and marketing, supporting sales market and channel development, and arranging technology partnering. His creative experience includes the development and delivery of market-leading, award-winning desktop and enterprise products -- including PC Magazine's Technical Excellence Award, Datamation's Product of the Year and two SIIA Codie Award Finalists.
An experienced film producer, Lee was also awarded 2008 NPVA Platinum and 2009 Silver Telly Awards for his work on a major fund-raising image video for Boston College. He is also co-inventor on US Patent # 6,275,600 for "Measuring image characteristics of output from a digital printer" and holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in economics from Dartmouth College and the University of Michigan, respectively.

In 2003 he moved to the Business Development taking the position of Key Accounts & Business Development Manager of Neurosoft S.A. In February 2010 he joined Neurolingo as a Sales & Marketing Executive.

Rohini Srihari photo Rohini K. Srihari, Ph.D., CEO, Founder and Chief Scientist, Janya
Rohini Srihari is an educator, scientist and entrepreneur. She has founded three language technology companies, including Janya Inc. headquartered in Amherst, NY where she currently serves as CEO. Janya is a leading provider of text analytics solutions and services to commercial and government customers, including several within the Department of Defense.
Dr. Srihari is also on the faculty of the Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering at the University at Buffalo. She has given numerous talks and published extensively in the areas of text mining, social media mining, and multilingual text analysis.

Leonoor van der Beek photo Leonoor van der Beek, Research Manager, Q-go
Leonoor van der Beek received a PhD in computational linguistics from the University of Groningen. She worked for search engine Ask.com before joining Q-go, where she managed a team of linguists. In 2009, she set up the research team that she is currently leading and which works on the next generation of customer self-service technology.

Anthony Vito, Software Engineer, TextWise
Anthony Vito has over 10 years of experience in software development and constructing search solutions. Prior to joining TextWise he developed a securities search product based on Apache's Lucene for a financial software firm. Since joining TextWise he has assisted in building out the TextWise SemanticHacker API for enterprise search solutions. Vito received his degree in Computer Science from the State University of New York at Oswego.
